I just bit the bullet and got the 10GB 4.99/month plan. I think this is really a nice price point for an acceptable amount of cloud storage that does not break the bank while being super convenient. I could see the DB people eventually upping all the plan amounts and more importantly adding more advanced features.

:( i was so desperatly hoping to see a plan which is a) worth the money and b) affordable...
now i did another price comparison: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/348398/price-comparison.png
and as thankful as i am to get offered such a great free service, if i have to pay 4,99 usd to get an additional 4,75GB (in the worst case - meaning if i had max bonus space) i'll think twice...it has been mentioned before - give me a 4,99usd/20gb plan and i'll subscribe instantly but these plans are just a "come on, the 50gb plan gives you max value for it's price" excuse...
edit: what i'm trying to say is: people in the forums keep asking and asking again for a CHEAPER plan, now - with this new plan/pricing model you are even growing the entry barrier in the lower end.
you need to encourage people to get a subscription, offering 10gb for 4,99 and 50% of it for free is nothing you can motivate people to give you their money.having said this: please - cheaper plans and reasonable prices!
edit2: @arash: if we subscribe now - can we expect that we can keep the plans we subscribed even if they are not offered after the review phase? and can we expect to switch to another plan if we like another plan better (e.g. because it's cheaper?)

+1 for the 100GB plan at 14.99/month at worst...
Posted 4 months ago # -
@cd
if you were maxed out at 5gb on the free plan, the 10gb plan would actually take you to 16gb (the max 6gb of bonus space would be added to the 10)re. #2
yep, you can switch between plans and everything will be prorated appropriately. you can keep a test plan after the test as well.Posted 4 months ago # -
thanks for the quick response! i'll adjust the calculation above...

I'd pay reasonable price for 10GiB. I have no use for 50/100GiB plans but 2GiB is bit tight. Also, I'd love to contribute some cash to your fantatastic service. So please, please, please! Give us some nice "low" plans!
Posted 4 months ago # -
Thanks to Arash. I've just realized that I can get 20GB + 6GB of bonus GB for just $69 if I pay for a whole year in advance. That's 18% less or $5.75 per month.
It's not what I was looking for exactly (I was hoping for $4.99 per month) but it's close enough.

ok, my last question: it has been mentioned that the "forums early birds" can keep pack-rat for free... is this still true?
Posted 4 months ago # -
@Michael N: Thanks a lot! You guys are unbelievable fast. Good support!
Best regards,
ThorstenPosted 4 months ago # -
i did another update: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/348398/price-comparison.png
now with pricing per gb either with monthly/yearly payment as well as with(out) bonusspace for usd and euro...
@arash: are you real? you're to fast to be human :)

I was hoping to see the 10Gb $4.99 plan in my upgrade path. That hits the sweet spot for me but unfortunately the lowest I’m offered is the 25Gb plan.
However it is good to see Dropbox offering alternative plans. It is by far the most transparent and simplest way to back up and sync data between multiple machines. Add to that that the great support and you have a killer service....
If you feel like offering me the 10Gb package I’ll put my money on the table.

@Michael D.: Just send them an email. I'm sure they gonna help you and give you the 10GB package.

Hi all,
I've tried to absorb the logic behind this but not sure that I have. I have been waiting months to suscribe, on the understanding that packages more suited to my needs would 'soon' be available. All I can see on my pricing mage is 20GB for $6.99 a month. I understand others are seeing different price points but this particular offer strikes me as bizarre. I was hoping for 20GB @ $4.99 or 10GB @ $3.99. Either of these would have had my subscription immediately. It's good that things are moving but I'm truly disappointed at the actual cost/size offer - if just doesn't seem reasonable.
Shame

As much as I've lobbied for the "better" deals now that I've seen them I've got to say they do fall in line with the price points of their competitors if you are willing to factor in the quality. Looking back I say it is unreasonable if not unrealistic to expect DB quality at SugarSync/SpiderOak prices. More, charging less as size increases is pretty standard in commerce. If anything the 100+ GB folks should be having second thoughts.

Hi gang. I'm EUPHORIC that the price structure is changing.
Arash: How do we get the "forum early bird" special? And when will we know what price points you've settled on?
Also, how will affiliate pricing structure work now?
I like the deals you're cutting with Thorsten, CD et al., how about the rest of us!!

Neil: if you maxed out your bonus space AND pay on a yearly basis you actually can get 20gb for 4,99usd a month --> look at my price comparison chart posted above
Posted 4 months ago # -
I just downgraded from 50 to 20. NOT AT ALL HAPPY that I am not getting a refund but a credit. Since I paid a year, I won't see this money for another 12 months--if I renew.
Surely this is not right?
Posted 4 months ago # -
why should you get a refund? you purchased a product, they wouldn't even have to let you downgrade off-cycle...
be happy that you finally found a product that fit's your needs even better and that you now have almost 2 years of dropbox by paying only one..
Posted 4 months ago # -
Good point. I'm sure the fine print is somewhere about this. But it would be helpful to remind users what will happen when they downgrade or upgrade (that is, if the downgrade function will remain a possibility after the tests)
Could you tell me more about the "forum early birds special" for Pack Rat? Now that would make me all smiles, for sure!
Posted 4 months ago # -
i can't really tell you something about it as i don't know more about it than i posted above...
pack-rat was for free as yet. when it was with costs for the first time existing users could get it for free if they were "pro users" - that's what i read about it in the forums...how often this accommodation is granted and to whom and why and ... i don't know
what i know is, that whenever i had a problem regarding dropbox even when i was a free user (i upgraded some hours before) my problems have been solved almost immediately and someone always took the time to clarify what happened.
their service and support team is acting human, not robotic and although there are rules/plans/... there is space to fine tune some products...Posted 4 months ago # -
Holly, just email them about what you like, you would like the pac-rat option. They did for me. support@getdropbox.com
Posted 4 months ago # -
proof that i am an american...
i have been wanting to pay for this service
because it is so awwwesome.....
now with new price points --
I immediately paid for 1 year of 10Gig --
and i bet i find a way to use most of the space...
now can feel much much better using the service
when people work hard and service the customer like
these guys do -- they deserve to earn what they
are worth...Posted 4 months ago # -
I'm seeing $4.99 for 10 GB. To me, it seems like a poor option. 10 GB when for double the price I get 50. I know the lower tiers won't be as good of a value, but still this doesn't seem to be a great option. Let's cross our fingers for the final plan determinations when they are made.

I just purchased the 10GB at 4.99 option. After writing on this forum that there should be cheaper options available then I guess I had to put my money where my mouth was :)
I would ofcourse love to see the quota changed to 20GB for the same price, who wouldnt?
To those who can choose this option, remember that like Arash said, if you are maxed out on reverals and the new 250MB "do 5 out of 6 things and get 250MB extra" thing they have going you actually get 16.25GB for 4.99 a month, which is not that bad :)
Props to the Dropbox team that they are working on providing additional plans, its taken a LONG time, but now the time is here.
Now I just can't wait for getting the iPhone app soon!!

You all seem to be focusing on the price per GB, and nothing else, like the service, support, software. All of these cost money, and are far superior here than the competition.
Posted 4 months ago # -
@cd:
Thanks for that. It'a a little clearer now (although I've still no idea at all what 'early adopter special' and 'pack-rat'. I understand the bonus bit but I really don't want to be messing about like that. I do appreciate the quality of dropbox but the prce needs to tempt me not to try looking for an alternative. Although quality is high, I just cannot accept 20GB/$6.99 as being good value. I'm sure others will disagree but given that like to use things long term without fiddling or swapping, this will probably be a 5-year commitment and the $ add up pretty quick.
I'll keep looking for alternatives and hope I can make something work for me. If not, guess I'll take one of the new packages here but I have to say I'm disappointed - 20GB@$4.99 seems to be a 'winner' with many here and is a very attractive proposition to new users. Whilst a little more expensive than some competitors, the quality carries DB through. I don't believe that argument holds anywhere near as well at $6.99. As always of course, the market is master - if suffcient are happy with these prices and purchase at that rate then I am clearly wrong ;)

Heck, I don't even have any of the new price point options :(
I feel so left out!
Was I too late?

David, if you want to buy one, just email them, I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige!

Sheesh people. Complain much?
Everyone said that $9.99 was too much, now they've started to offer plans at $6.99 and $4.99, there still too much! and still complaining.
Dropbox is a business, and like most businesses they are there to make a money. Welcome to the real world people.
How anyone can claim that paying even $9.99 is too much is beyond me. The quality, support, everything is just flawless with Dropbox. How much downtime has there been? How many improvements? How many manhours do you think have been poured into this service?
There are some fantastic spreadsheets working out price/GB. Excellent, really nice. But why haven't you taken into account salaries, running costs, etc. all these things have been overlooked. Do you think DB are going to offer you the service at just the price/GB they get storage? Err. No!
These forums are full of negative posts, and negative people, complaining their entire sad little life. Whatever DB did, it wouldn't have been good enough. Most of you disgust me with your incessant negativity on the forum.

A 20 GB plan at $4.99 would be optimal. I have no use for greater than 20-25 GB of sync space...yet more than halving space for a 1/3rd less?
