DropboxPortable is a wrapper for the Dropbox application. Simply put, it allows you to run Dropbox from any USB drive with no installation and also sync data to your USB drive.

DropboxPortable x64 Update: DropboxPortable should now be compatible with 64-bit Windows. Please let me know if you have any issues.

If you find this software useful, please consider a small donation for the time spent on development and support.

    0.7.45

    • Dropbox update

Please be careful using the customized path feature. If you adjust the path AFTER you've installed it (ie, went through the Dropbox setup), make sure to copy your Dropbox folder to where it's configured. DropboxPortable will alert you if the folder does not exist, but WHATEVER YOU DO, do not create an empty folder. It WILL erase everything in your Dropbox!

    Download
    Windows only: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/50461/DropboxPortable/DropboxPortable%200.7.45.zip

    Upgrading
When upgrading, please backup your "Data" and "Dropbox" folders before copying the new program files. This will ensure that no data is lost.

    Known Issues

    • Overlays and Explorer extensions (right click>Dropbox) do not work unless Dropbox is installed on the PC

Please report any bugs to this forum and I will try to address them as soon as possible.

Thanks for everyone's interest, and I hope you enjoy the portable support!

@William S. & Georg D.: No, I am a Windows only programmer at this point. However, I will talk to a few friends of mine and see what they can do.

    @Todd C.: No prob ;] Glad I could help.

@Michael G.: You're very welcome. A paycheck would be nice, but I'm only politely asking for donations for my time spent on developing these applications: http://dale3h.com/ (donate button in the left column)

If anyone should have any problems, please do not hesitate to ask for help. I may not get to it right away, but I will try my best.

Incredible, Dropbox now is unbeatable for sure. This should be adapted as an official project.

It bugs out on my work XP machine. Could be admin rights. I can make a report dump if you'd like. I'll try it on another box when I get home.

    I'm using WinXP Japanese edition.

Your application looks fail to handle Japanese characters in path.

This is brilliant. I've been using Dropbox to sync my KeePass database, which works great on my PCs but gets annoying when I have to use my thumb drive on a different computer. Now I don't have to go to the website to manually sync the file!

Wow, I didn't expect this to get all the buzz that it's getting. You're welcome to everyone (sorry, can't name each individually)

@Chris O.: That'd be nice...working for Dropbox ;] I'd be willing to support it as an official project for them, but the whole reason that Dropbox was created was to not have to use flash drives...

@Duane Y.: Yes, please post a report dump if you can. This might help diagnose the problem tremendously. Let me know how it goes on your other box.

@Emil B.: Thanks for pointing that out! I haven't been to Lifehacker in a few days, so I wouldn't have seen this myself.

@Matthew F.: Go into the 'Data' directory and delete it's contents. If you delete the directory itself, the program will crash. I will fix this in the next release. *THIS BUG HAS BEEN ADDRESSED IN VERSION 0.6.491*

@dan n.: I think that 64bit Windows will require the 64bit SQLite library. I will work on getting this into the mix.

If anyone else has any problems, please post. I would like to get this to be as stable as possible for all Windows builds XP and later (I do not believe that Windows 2000 does not support .NET Framework 3.5).

OK. I know it might seem really obvious but here we go - install this app to your thumb drive. Not on to your PC like I did first. Doh!

Yes! I just last week was told no more use of dropbox at work. I've only used it for personal files, but the company lawyers said the EULA was a little too broad. Thanks!
