A 2nd Mirage in the Desert! In particular, if you're on OS X Lion we need your help in testing our Finder integration!

    1.2.14
o Fix bug in OSX which would cause multiple dropbox items to be in the favorites list.
o Fix very rare bug in OSX which would cause 100% cpu usage.
o Faster startup time on OSX (Thanks DanC!)
    o Performance enhancements for Lion
o New icons for Windows. (Favorite Links, Dropbox folder, Photos, Public)

    1.2 Features
o Security enhancements, an attacker will not be able to steal your computer's account credentials just by copying configuration files to another machine.
o New encrypted database format to prevent unauthorized access to local Dropbox client database.

    Windows: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%201.2.14.exe
    Mac OS X: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%201.2.14.dmg
    Linux x86_64: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-1.2.14.tar.gz
    Linux x86: http://dl-web.dropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-1.2.14.tar.gz

    Notes:
Sadly as a result of the new database some 3rd party apps that relied on our old database format to sync with Dropbox will stop working (Examples include KFilebox, DropboxPortableAHK)

I've been wondering for quite a while. For a lot of these bug/performance fix builds, only the client for one or two platforms are actually updated. Are builds for the other platforms compiled just for the sake of version-parity each time?

    @Chen S.
Any time we make a build, we build for all platforms. Usually, however, there are several minor bug fixes that we don't list - what's at the top of the page is a summary, not a truly definitive listing.

That said, we are nearing the end of the release cycle for 1.2; things are stabilizing, and the delta between minor releases is getting smaller. For example, for this release, I believe the only change relevant to the Linux build is that some of our translations changed.

    Cheers,
    Martin

Dropbox 1.2.14, Mac OS X 10.4.11 (fully updated), on m'QuickSilver...

Lazy install - just double-clicked on Dropbox in the dmg, while 1.2.13 was still running. It took 11s for the copy & re-launch & menu bar icon. Then another 3 sec to "all files up to date". 14s total .... Nice!

After install, all files and folders were properly badged.
    Quit Dropbox.
All files and folders continue to have their checkmarks.

Dropbox isn't telling Finder to unbadge things before it quits?

    Quit & relaunched Finder.
    Now all badged have vanished.

Launched Dropbox. 5 seconds to menu bar icon! wow! great!

    All folder badges are back.

All of the file badges are back, except the files within Dropbox/Photos/rCats/. Those files are completely unbadged.

    Quit & relaunch Finder.
Now all folders and files are properly badged.

    Console log spew:

    Entered INJECT_pthread_entry
    Installing event loop timer
    proc: 0x5908054
    upp: 0x5908054
    InstallEventLoopTimer: 0x932f1760
    GetMainEventLoop: 0x932b72cc
    timer installed!
Loading a plugin (/Library/DropboxHelperTools/Dropbox_u502/DropboxPlugin.plugin/), we have to initialize it

...It would be helpful if such spew was time stamped and marked as being from Dropbox.

    (edit; half an hour later)
Tossed an 800 MB file into my Dropbox. It's flying at around 7.52 Mbps. Decent speed. 11amish

I don't know if this was issued before, but why it doesn't do Autoupdate yet, or appear in the Mac App Store. thanks!

Autoupdate has been covered over and over; search the forums. And this is a beta test build - you wouldn't want to push that out to the general user base anyway!

As for the app store.... heh. Dropbox does system'ish and privileged things, so it probably won't be permitted into the store. Or they'd have to do a "lite" version in the store then have you come here to get the real one ... like the AV and other utility developers are having to do.

    Hi Luis,

if you want to live on the 'bleeding edge,' look into a user-contributed addon called MacDropUpdate 2, by Sebastian H.

    wiki - http://wiki.dropbox.com/DropboxAddons/MacDropUpdate

    forum support thread - http://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=28713

MacDropUpdate will keep you automatically on the latest Forum release.

Thanks for that alex, i have cheked MacDropUpdate before, but i was thinking in something more out-of-the-box or integrated-to-the-app. Anyway it will be good to know some news about this subject soon in new releases.

    Those are cute (new) icons on the folders! Just need them to smile when the connection is good, and frown when it is poor - then the world will be perfect ;}

    Hi Luis,

I don't think Dropbox will ever auto-push every beta version to testers, regardless of whether you've checked the "include me on unstable releases" check box in Preferences. And for good reason - it is *unstable* and so testers need to come to the Forum and at least be given the opportunity to read over the beta test Topic before Dropbox hands them the gun to aim at their foot. :-)

They did push out one, in my memory (which is miserably unreliable,) so they can and will auto-upgrade beta versions if something was seriously wrong with a release such that it *had* to be immediately patched.

Re: MacDropUpdate - I've been using it since Sebastian first released it, and MacDropUpdate 2 is quite polished and solid - an elegant utility. It really is a set it and forget it app. And Sebastian is a really good programmer of Dropbox addon utilities - his apps will work exactly as advertised, and i do not hesitate to recommend MDU to you as long as you understand the implications.

When it auto-upgraded me to 1.2 - that could have been a disaster, had I been depending on certain third party addons which were suddenly broken by the encrypted database in 1.2.xx. That was a mildly shocking experience -smile-, so just know that that sort of unexpected thing can happen with MDU because Dropbox does *not* promise to inform us of changes, especially security changes, before they make them. For better or worse, you can *not* rely on a 'heads up.'

My point: Dropbox likely won't incorporate MDU functionality exactly because it is a bad idea. :-) I'm not really joking when I refer to the 'bleeding edge.' I can afford to ride the MDU roller-coaster, and enjoy doing so, because I'm not doing anything terribly 'mission-critical' these days. :-)

    Enjoy Dropbox!

I'm getting a weird bug on 10.6.8. The Dropbox indicator is spinning and is reporting that files are uploading (which is correct) but in Finder, everything has the green synced icon. When I open the folder that contains the uploading files, all icons flash to the blue syncing icon for a millisecond until the folder opens and then all files within are green, even tho some are still uploading. If I keep just clicking the files, eventually they all turn to blue, including the ones that have already uploaded.

.14 looks great so far on Lion GM (as did .13) - are there specific Finder integration items you want us testing?
