    Hi guys,
This build features fixes for Snow Leopard integration and also includes many memory/performance fixes, as well as LAN sync. We've now fixed all known Snow Leopard Finder integration issues.

To trigger the loading of the new Finder integration, force quit the Finder and then restart Dropbox. Alternatively, reboot your mac.

    0.7.24
    - New finder toolbar icon (including small version)
    - New prettier b/w menu bar icon
    - New 512x512 Dropbox app icon
    - Small LAN based P2P protocol change (make sure to upgrade all your dropboxes if you move to this build)
    - 'Recently Changed' files now persist across reboots of Dropbox
    - Fix for Dropbox not auto-starting on OS X
    - Another fix for problem that prevented some from seeing Finder integration
    - Experimental fix for office file issues (!) ("Word 2007 bug")
    - Minor stability fixes

    Windows: http://dl-web.getdropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%200.7.24.exe
    Mac OS X: http://dl-web.getdropbox.com/u/17/Dropbox%200.7.24.dmg
    Linux x86_64: http://dl-web.getdropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-0.7.24.tar.gz
    Linux x86: http://dl-web.getdropbox.com/u/17/dropbox-lnx.x86-0.7.24.tar.gz

if it's important that your dropbox is stable/reliable, we recommend running the latest stable build (0.6.567 - http://www.getdropbox.com/install)

edit: if you're on 10.5, overlays won't work on this build. sorry! will be fixed in the 9/29 build

Was this originally posted as 0.7.25 by mistake? That's what showed up in my RSS reader, but when I checked the forums, it's showing as 0.7.24.

    @Arash
Looks like a great build, working perfect under OSX 10.6.1. I noticed that you updated the app icon, which looks excellent I might add. Any way that this icon can be set to show up in the places section in Finder? I know how to use the Get Info Copy/Paste Method but that changes the whole folder, rather have it like Desktop or Music that has a matching icon in the home folder and a fresh one for Places.

will it be possible to place the dropbox overlay in both binaries? ppc and intel thanks alot. so for xslimmer users can benefit from juz pure intel binary. thanks alot.

A little suggestion: (Mac OS X version)

    1. Can anyone build the update function into dropbox application itself, so that I don't need log into this forum downloading the latest version.

    2. It seems that the new version comes out too frequently to be up-to-date for users.

    3. Maybe you guys can do more system-side modification than just release new user-side application. I know this is big project, but if you do so that will make little hassle in the future management.

    Thanks!

Elias K: Inside System/Library/CoreServices there's a bundle called CoreTypes.bundle, and inside there there's /Contents/Resources full of icns files. Some of them have the format ToolbarxxxxFolderIcon.icns where xxxx is the name - Movie, Music, Pictures etc.

I tried lifting the Dropbox.app's icns file out of the app package and renaming it ToolbarDropboxFolderIcon.icns, setting ownership and permissions to match all the others, and then did a restart.

I'm afraid nothing happened, but I guess this might be a good place to start.

    Hello,

0.7.24 broke Finder integration and icon overlays for me (0.7.22 was OK). I tried logging out, rebooting…: no change !

Is there supposed to be a special Dropbox button in Explorer (on Windows)? I've seen others mention something like that, but never seen it on my XP machine.

So far, Office 2007 works fine with this build.

Terence B: Your definitely right about CoreTypes.bundle. I repeated your steps and could not get it to work either. After a little more research, it seems that you need to edit "\Users\USER\Library\Preferences\com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" to direct Finder to use the icon. I am not too savvy in editing .plist files but it should just be a simple copy of one folder's string (like Downloads) and pasting it for Dropbox with the change in path to the custom made icon added to CoreTypes. I'm only guessing but this could possibly be done through Terminal or even TextEdit but like I said, I have no experience in those matters.

Agree with Ap. V. about notification of new version / auto-update.
At least, post the news on twitter !

All seems well here, as well, including contextual menus for the first time in 0.7.XX.

Agreed, make an autoupdate application for betas, not just stable builds.

*Bug in finger: It shows "button", no dropbox logo, even when restarting the finder.

*Less technical solution for auto update.

Once a new Experimental Build is released someone from the dropbox crew should makes a post with the link in second most recent build thread (which often happens, especially lately). Add these threads to google reader (or other RSS reader?). Dropbox crew, please have the same person relay the message so we only have to look for their post. I usually add Experimental Build threads to google reader and scan for arash posts. Cheers.

    @ Ap V.

Stay with the stable build (0.6.x), not with the experimental version.

Then you get all you want:
    - auto update
    - long update intervals

    BTW
What makes you think the dropboxers are not making "system-side modifications"?

Am running this experimental build, on Windows 7 and I noticed that everytime I try to save an excel file in one of my dropbox folders, it gives me a 'sharing violation' and creates a new temp file and asks me if I want to open that file and save to a new file.

Basically, I can't save changes to my current file. I also notice when I look in the folder, while changes are being made and saved there is a red X, rather than a blue circle. Eventually it changes from red X to green check, but I have never seen the red X before.

Should I go back to the latest stable build?

    Thanks.

Check out this script for linux: http://forums.getdropbox.com/topic.php?id=12153
I'd reckon that it would easily port to OS X
