We don't have every feature we're working on listed (some are secret!) and we often throw in random goodies, but this list should give a pretty good idea of what we're up to (note - just because something is medium term doesn't mean we're not currently working on it)

    Updated 8/29/08

Coming soon (short term - in no particular order):

    • Fixes for certain kinds of redirected home folders (e.g. in corporate environments)
    • Improved progress status
    • Fix for tray icon occasionally getting 'stuck' syncing in Windows
    • Support for bulk operations on web interface - i.e. bulk purge files/folders, renames, moves etc.
    • Better support for one-off file shares (with expiration, etc.)
    • Landing pages for public links
    • Fixes to non-admin install on Windows

    Coming soon (medium term):

    • Watch any folder (i.e. sync any folder)/better sync options
    • User specified ignore list (by file type)
    • File search on the web interface
    • Better handling of audio/video files on web interface
    • Better shared folder controls

Hope this gives you an idea of what we're addressing -- feel free to post new threads about other feature requests.

We'll also look into options for HSDPA/3G users (who often pay per megabyte and would want to avoid syncing large files during that time.)

The first cut will probably be a "Pause for 24 hours" option/toggle, and after seeing how that goes we'll look into a more automatic solution.

The folder sync (from MyDocuments to Web) does not function... I believe it is due to our corporate structure of having MyDocuments redirected to a network drive for back-up purposes. It seems to have affected right-click contextual menu choices as well.

"# Ability to move/rename shared folders - Done"

Does anyone want to let me in on the secret to this one?
My Documents is on the corporate network - and i've got a separate Docs folder set up for my routine documents. I'd like to specific Dropbox to be located in my local folder instead of on the network.

Lovely work going here! Keep rocking!

I'm wondering, if its possible to take this one step further and sync folders on smartphones. Symbian and Windows. I'm certain this would be very welcome by many people.

Especially, if I could say copy 100MB files on my phone's media via card reader on computer - then ask that folder to be synced from the computer (uploading all files via my broadband) then telling the mobile client to sync the folder with already populated folder on my mobile - reducing initial transfer data charges (and time) and only incurring the file-difference data transfer rates.

I'm looking forward to what you guys think about this...

    Cheers!

    Question...

I am considering utilizing this as a client collaboration tool - an aggregate location for files, agendas, etc..

Thus we would point Drop Box at certain file folders on our network (this is assuming that in the future we don't have to only use MyDocument folders).. and those files would sync with our clients, etc..

What kind of corporate pricing structure are you considering?

It would be really cool if Dropbox was WebDAV accessible, for those times when you want direct access to your files but don't necessarily want to install the software.

(Yes, I realize there's a web UI for this -- and it works well -- but I can't manipulate documents directly through the web. I can with WebDAV.)

Keep up the great work! This is great software!

hii ! great service and idea !!

    can i make a feature request ??
here it is anyway ! ;)

allow use to have links to our public folders ! so that we can share it with our friends !
    for example like http://seflashing.4shared.com
no problem if a user needs to sign in if the user wants to acces a folder say getdropbox.com/foldername

for example, notice that all three pictures seem to be in same folder on server

    http://dl.getdropbox.com/get/Shared/flowser.jpg
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/get/Shared/Lamborghini_Revent%C3%B3n.jpg
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/get/Shared/this_is_love__right__by_fantasiafaerie.jpg

    but i can't access the folder !
    http://dl.getdropbox.com/get/Shared/

hope am not asking much ;)

    Thanks !
And All the best to DropBox Team ! Wish you great Success !

I imagine this might come under "Watch any folder", but there definitely should be an option to change the default location of the dropbox.

What if I don't want to use up lots of space (with duplicate files) in my small windows partition?

Looking forward to "Finer grained bandwidth management/prioritizing of uploads"! I'm sharing some huge files and some tiny files, and when Dropbox chooses a big file and uploads it really slowly, it stinks!

After using Dropbox for a few days, I'm very impressed with the gui, ease of use and integration. Reading through the forums I've seen many references to "Watch Any Folder". I assume that means that folders outside of the Dropbox root folder would be accessible too?

After playing with the software, I was wondering if there was a way that this software could be implemented in such a manner that would allow the end user to simply sync two folders on different systems via the internet or network. Meaning, the data wouldn't be added to the 3rd party data cloud (Dropbox Server) but just synched via the two systems via p2p.

It would be nice if you were able to JUST sync folders between systems. I'm not sure how .. feasible this idea is, just a thought. Before Microsoft bought Foldershare, Foldershare was charging a fairly hefty yearly subscription for this service. Microsoft did away with the subscription service and made it "Free". Of course since that time, Foldershare has had downtime and little to no new innovation. The small community of users have stated on more than one occasion that they would fully embrace another pay service if one were available.

    Just some food for thought.

Here is an easy idea. When I look at the folders people have shared with me in my dropbox, sometimes people upload a huge file. which takes up a lot of space. well it takes up space on my hard drive. what i was imagining is under the sharing options you could set specific folders to "Shortcut Only" meaning when i look at my drop box under finder it will show a bunch of shortcuts but won't actually be the whole file. then if I want a specific file i simply double click it and it starts downloading just that file. does that make sense? sound like a good idea?

I second Trevor's request. It would be great to have the the ability to select a specific folder and choose to sync this folder only with specific computers. One of my laptops has a tiny hard drive and it is getting filled up with my Dropbox folders---and folders that have been shared with me.

The current "sync everywhere" behavior should remain the default, but we should have finer grained control of what syncs to each device. I always liked FolderShare's ability to do this, but ever since Microsoft removed the ability to delta sync, I've been looking for something else. Thankfully Dropbox looks like it will be my new sync solution.

    To be more specific

Here is an example of what I'd like to see. My friend shared his folder with a few people and he had large files in it. Now i want to be able to "view" or "browse" the files in my friends shared folder through my drop box on my computer. But I may not need them all or I may just want them in the future but I don't want them taking up space on my computer.

Perhaps you guys could create a way to right click on a specific folder and select and option called "shortcuts only". Then it will only show shortcuts of the files and not download the entire file. Then when i select the specific file i want i simply right click and select the dropbox menu and select "download". Then it just forms into the actual file in dropbox. Then of course there would be a reverse option to turn it back into a shortcut. Or if possible to make it even easier just double click it to download it.

This would be much easier then browsing through the website too.

Anyone please leave feedback if you think this idea is Unrealistic, stupid, Great, or how important this would be to you?

    Thanks
    Trevor

Please don't get mad for double posting just wanna make sure my idea is clear.

    AKSHAY,
you can already share files with anybody.
put files in public folder and right click the file and under "dropbox" sub-menu you will find "copy public link"
    share that link.

This is probably medium to long term but if we are offering up ideas I would like to see integration with zoho (which I use) and google apps (which lots of people seem to like) similar to what box.net does.

Mentioned previously but add another vote for being able to specify other folders for sync. I have an elaborate directory structure that for various other reasons, I don't want to relocate everything under "My Dropbox" (the space throws other things off in my little world). Would be great if in the UI you could just put a checkmark next to folders that you wanted to be part of your dropbox.

I'm sorry to have to say this, but considering Dropbox's current feature set, I don't think it can really be considered a real product until there's a way to give it a hug. I mean... all this fancy stuff you've made so far is great 'n all, but I feel this overwhelming urge to hug Dropbox for being so awesome.

Until you add some kind of feature to provide for this, I think you guys have really missed the mark.

agreed with david, I'm very frustrated and upset with this product not having emotional companionship in a hug. I mean it does everything but that. definitely missed the mark. i mean this product goes in the ranks of windows vista if it can't give you a hug.
