This morning, I added two episodes of Twilight Zone to my Dropbox so I could watch them at work. I left them syncing on my home computer, and after about half an hour, the first episode poppped up on the website. I started to watch it and discovered that it was cut off - only about 14 minutes of the episode would stream (the episodes are approx. 25 minutes long). I thought perhaps it just hadn't finished syncing yet, so I went back to the main page but saw that the second episode was now synced as well & appearing on the site. But again, only 14 minutes of this episode will stream. Why is this happening? At this point, it's been hours since I started syncing the files, so it's not possible that they haven't finished syncing yet. (I also assume that they don't appear on the website until they're entirely finished anyway.) Is this some sort of uploading problem? Or is there a problem with video playback through the website where it won't play the full file for some reason?

I must be overlooking so obvious that I don't "see" it.
Brian H. I don't think I noticed that "Get Link" in the dropdown menu before, but it doesn't make any difference. When I click on it, my 90-minute file starts downloading. I don't want to download the file, I only want a link to that file that I can send.
Daniel E: I still must be missing something. I already have several copies of the file in question saved in Dropbox. Could you tell me step-by-step what I have to do to make a LINK to the file that I can send. I might add that I don't have a Dropdown icon on my desktop. I'd like one, but I can't seem to get one there.

Hi Cross,
No, you'd have to create an entirely new one. Alternatively, you can look at Dropbox for Teams although it may be overkill for what you need. If you just need two different access levels, having two accounts should be enough (unless you want better logs of who does what to files, the events page shows events made by account, not computer).

Are you in your Dropbox website, or in your local folder?
You need to be in the website to do this.
Open the website an navigate to the file in question.
Right-click (or Control+ Click if you have Mac mouse) on it and "Get link" should be the first selection in the dropdown.

I actually dont think it could be a new feature - Dropbox uses notifications from the OS that files change. As the files are not actually in Dropbox they are then not receiving the notifications of changes (the notifications are being 'flagged' in the original location). A possible workaround for Dropbox could be to re-index every x minutes, although, personally I would hate that it could be something that is a optional choice in settings

You can delete all the contents of ...\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache\... without experiencing any problems

This folder caches files deleted somewhere else. So they can be restored (if restored) without download.
For example, if PC A has a file, and PC B deletes it. PC A moves it to cache.

In my opinion, the HELP section of Dropbox is of very limited value. A great improvement would be to prominently display there a link to this forum. I haven't yet received a reply to a question I posted here, but I'm confident that one will soon appear. I could have saved myself a great deal of wasted time if I had thought to look for a Dropbox forum at the beginning of my problems.

I work from home. For the past two years I've had my own personal dropbox account, and work has shared project folders to me. This is a paid account, upgraded to 50GB.

Yesterday my employer decided that this was getting too cumbersome and needed to have a centralized dropbox for all users, so they purchased a team account and attached it to my work email.

So now I have two paid accounts, both of which need to be used on the same computer (my Mac) at the same time, both of which have gigabytes worth of data in them, so switching back and forth isn't viable. The workaround of using multiple user accounts on the same computer is extremely cumbersome and doesn't allow me to actually use both at the same time.

I'm now stuck between a rock and a hard place, there is literally no means for me to use both PAID accounts. Please Dropbox, PLEASE implement some sort of system, even if it is limited to only paid accounts. At this moment I am a paying customer who cannot use the service he is paying for.

Thanks for answer.
If I could, I do this, but not always I can't have files in different folder, so only solution is put symlinks to dropbox folder.
But it could be new ability to add for Dropbox in future.
Thanks

Hi Cross,
If you want to limit access to certain folders, they will need to be set up with a separate Dropbox account. Then, you can share the specific folders with their account.

Having a very strange problem.

User on computer A created 3 files and saved them to that computers dropbox folder - there are no strange characters in the name.

When going to email those files, two of the files are found by the email program and can be attached, however when you go into the dropbox folder normally they are not seen.

One of the files, the email program does not see, and when you look in dropbox folder, they are not there, however it is in microsoft words recent docs and when you try to re-save the file to that dropbox folder, it says "the file already exists - do you want to save over it?". Even if we save over it, the files are still not visible in the dropbox folder or available for attachment.

Hi Terrence,
When did you send the Support Ticket? It can take 3 business days for a reply.

Where are you seeing the missing files? Is it on your computer, or the Dropbox website? If the files are missing on your computer, make sure that the Dropbox app is running and connecting to Dropbox's servers by mousing over the Dropbox app icon in the system tray on your system. If the files are missing on the Dropbox website, likewise make sure that the Dropbox app is connected to Dropbox servers. If the files are on neither the website or your computer, they may have been deleted. On the Dropbox website, head to the affected folders and click the trash icon at the top of the page. That will make the page display deleted files in that folder. Select the ones you want to recover, then click "Restore".

Our company used dropbox so that all of our office employees have access to all the files on there. Recently we have allowed our field staff access to dropbox so that we can share information with them as well, such as work orders, etc...

The thing I would like to know, is can we somehow make it so that our payroll folder is not available to certain users? From what I have read, I cannot password protect it, but is there another way that only specific users can view it?
